places i go...

slashdot

The penultimate sites for people with extensive technical knowledge, aka geeks. More news about science, games, online rights, with open forum commentary to boot.

wired news

A less timely, more refined news site for our technology-laden culture. Also, it has articles from the excellent Wired Magazine. I find Wired to be well written and engaging, with lots of visual eye candy there as well, especially in the excellent infoporn section

osnews

In-depth coverage of all things in the computing industry surrounding operating systems. All things from Windows to Mac OSX to OpenBSD to really obscure systems like SkyOS.

stylus magazine

Music news and reviews sites, for the most part, miss what Stylus picks up on. The site has a large staff with a wide array of opinions from mainstream to obsurdly obscure music releases from today and yesterday. Additionally, a staff blog and interesting features make the seem editors a bit less distant.

pitchfork

Pitchfork would certainly be my favorite music news site if stylus wasn't so bloody good. Pf carries more news about bands' tours and releases, as well as reviewing full albums and single tracks separately. A music fan can't go wrong checking out the Best New Music section.

penny arcade

Take two average guys, comics, video games, and a lot of profanity. Mix well. Product: one full serving of Penny Arcade, a wonderful web comic/commentary site about video games and video game industry trends. It's uncensored, it's unadultered, it's really funny.

diesel sweeties

Low pixel count, high laugh count. DS is a web comic with a dirge of goofy characters, both robot and hu-man. Not to mention hot, discreet robot-on-girl action.

daring fireball

Commentary on the obscure topics of Mac userdom. Also, excellent minimalist design makes reading a pleasure

think secret

Just over the horizon Apple news. Some insider reports about new hardware and software coming from Cupertino. If you're thinking about buying an apple product that hasn't been refreshed for some time, check this site to see if any news on new products is out there.

people i read...

whoops

Equal parts brilliant wit and stunning beauty, So Hang will intimidate you with her near-perfect grasp of the english language then hand you your ass in billiards.

sheilapunkarelli

Cyndi blogs like there will be no tomorrow, that the current entry may be her last impression on the planet. And that's not a bad thing. Cyndi has a great love for literature and a semi-creepy love for Ani DiFranco. Plus her site get cool design + weird name cred.

caoine

emma story is the designer of Penny Arcade's website, and writes a good weblog about living and going to school in NYC, as well as mac and web design insight. She also studies philosophy, meaning random and interesting ramblings about Kant, Nietsche, and the like.
